Summer is here!

Knight Hall School is gearing up for summer! Parent/teacher conferences are behind us, and we now look forward to warm, sunny days.

Summer at Knight Hall School is remarkable. We take our classrooms outside! Children can be seen painting on fence-mounted easels, playing in a sprinkler, splashing in a water table and drawing at the picnic table. The shady, sandy area in the back play yard is now quickly turned into a jungle or prehistoric valley backdrop for animals and dinosaurs of all types. The outdoors becomes the inspiration for all they do.

In summer, water and sand are some of our best teaching tools. Watching water stream from one end of our sandy backyard to the other sparks much discussion. As the water weaves through the sand, cutting valleys and creating tributaries along the way, teachers and children debate everything from the power of water to the displacement of water. The opportunities for learning are limitless. It's through this type of play that we also build community. You know the saying, 'It takes a village to raise a child"? Here at Knight Hall it takes children to build a village!

Summer is so short. I hope you will find time to enjoy all these possibilities with your child. Run the hose through your back yard and watch to see what happens. Allow yourself to sit in the grass with your child. Watch to see what the water will do. You and your child will be amazed!

Happy summer to all!
